Blame The Coronavirus For Delaying The PS5 And New Xbox

According to Business Insider, the new Xbox and PS5 could be delayed until 2021, after they were scheduled for the holiday season of 2020. Pretty much all of the world’s electronics are manufactured in China and unless you live under a rock, you know that the cases of coronavirus are climbing each day out there. As of yesterday, over 28,000 people were reported as infected, and out of the 560 people who have died from the virus, all but two were in the mainland of China.

Jefferies Group, who is a major investment bank says that if companies are shut down for a long period of time, then delays are inevitable. This is for consoles, iPhones, and all other electronics that get pumped out over there.

“The video game sector is currently manufacturing, or beginning to, a once-in-several-years’ product generation change for the 2020 holiday season,” a note from Jefferies Group published this week says. “If [company] shutdowns exceed a month or so, game schedules will be delayed. New consoles may likewise suffer supply issues from a prolonged disruption, ahead of their Fall 2020 planned launches.”

Well it makes total sense but I’m not gonna act like I’m not bummed about it. Is it official? No. But will it more than likely result in a delay? Sadly, yes. But fuck it, what’s another few months when we’ve already been getting thrown around the ringer for years. It’s the way to cookie crumbles. Sony and Microsoft should just rip the bandaid off and announce the delay like Nintendo. Just get under it before the time gets closer. People will fake mad on the internet like always and then get over it. And it gives them more time for their pricing game of chicken.
