Power Rangers: Mega Battle Announced, Instantly Becomes Arcade GOTY 2017

It is 10:19AM Eastern Daylight Time on a Friday and my weekend is already made. Bandai Namco just showed up at my door with a sixer of Bud Diets and shotgunned one right on my doorstep. I can’t believe it, and I certainly wasn’t ready to party like this (this early, anyway), but Bandai Namco’s new side-scrolling beat-em-up looks fuckin awesome.

This is part of a huge Power Rangers push that’s happening on all fronts. We’ve got the Lionsgate-produced Power Rangers flick coming next March, new Power Rangers graphic novels from BOOM! Comics, and now this. Power Rangers are taking back their block, showing up in their old stomping grounds and showing the new heads what the game is all about.

Anybody who knows me knows I’m a big couch co-op guy, and I’m an even bigger arcade game guy. So needless to say – I’m stoked for this. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle is gonna be the first Power Rangers game on Xbox One and PS4, and it’s the first Power Rangers game based solely on the original series in over a decade. This reminds me of one of my favorite games for Sega, the 1994 and 1995 Power Rangers beat-em-ups that were based off of the original series and then the first movie. The best news of all is that Jason, Trini, Billy, Kimberly, Zack & Tommy are all playable characters in Mega Battle, and the game itself will be set during the events of the first two seasons – so here’s hoping we’ll see some classic monsters and villains from the original series. Judging by the trailer, if they didn’t get some of the original actors to provide the voices then they got some INCREDIBLE people to imitate them, because the quips and one-liners from the Rangers are all here, as well as tons of other sights and sounds that will be instantly familiar to fans of the series.

If you’re ready for your 151-proof shot of nostalgia, check out the first official trailer for Power Rangers: Mega Battle right here:

Power Rangers: Mega Battle is coming in January of 2017, so stay tuned right here for updates for this sure-to-be-amazing side-scroller as the news breaks.
