Nintendo Just Casually Dropped Several Bombshells In 30 Minutes On Today’s Nintendo Direct

Today’s Nintendo Direct just ended, and I’m still winded from yelling at my computer screen for the last 30 minutes. In case you missed it, check out the video below for the whole thing:

Here’s a few notes I took about the announcements (in no particular order or organization, I’m not editing this and you can’t make me) and then we’ll talk about the BIG stuff:

Coming for 3DS:

Warioware Gold, neat
Mario & Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey, not Super Mario RPG so meh
Detective Pikachu, I’m rattled that Pikachu talks
The original Luigi’s Mansion, love it

Coming for Switch:

Kirby Star Allies next week, featuring King Deedeedee, Meta Knight, WaddleDee, and more as playable co-op characters. Post-launch DLC will be free, and will add characters like Rick, Kine, Coo, Marx, and Gooey. Word

Okami HD with touch controls, neat
Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushi, dunno what this is but okay
Octopath Traveler, cool turn based shit
Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes – didn’t care about this franchise on Wii but I’m sure someone’s excited
Dark Souls – Amiibos and dying
Mario Tennis Aces, looks dope, online MP with matchmaking and custom tournaments, swing mode with motion controls, pre-launch online tourney coming soon. I’m sold already so
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, nope
Undertale, still don’t know what this is
Little Nightmares, this either
Hyrule Warriors, dumb
South Park Fractured But Whole, they got Nintendo to say “butthole”, lmao
Something about Arms, I blacked out laughing about the South Park thing so I’m sorry
Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion, looks neat

And now, let’s talk about the two huge elephants in the room.

You already knew this was coming eventually but we finally for a Super Smash Bros. Switch tease at the very end of the Direct. The biggest thing to be excited about (aside from it existing) is that it’s coming this year, which is pretty awesome, obviously. We’ll probably see more at E3 2018.

For my money though, the biggest shock here was CRASH BANDICOOT ON SWITCH. That’s right, we’re getting the once-and-former Sony poster-animal on Nintendo’s console, which is absolutely insane. Like, 12-year old Dom would be freaking out about this, because he was a HARDCORE Nintendo die-hard and wouldn’t be caught dead holding a Dualshock controller – but deep down he know Crash Bandicoot was the shit. I, for one, cannot wait to welcome Crash to the Nintendo Switch, and I hope this opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for game developers to work together and share their fantastic IPs. Also, this absolutely means we’re getting Crash Bandicoot in the Switch Smash – you heard it here first.
