BlizzCon 2026 Day 1: Everything You Need To Know
It’s been a wild day folks. The jet lag was whooping my ass, so I broke off a quick 5K run in the AM to the convention center and back. Needless to say, I wasn’t thrilled with seeing a massive clusterfuck of folks already lined up since 5am or earlier. Not ideal. But once we did finally get in later that morning, BlizzCon started off with a bang and didn’t slow down from there. Here’s everything you need to know, franchise by franchise.
Heroes of the Storm
It’s back apparently, and Xal’atath and another Hero to be named later are coming to the game this year. Pretty great news for HOTS die hards and people (like me) who never gave it a chance but still would like to. Pretty weird way to kick off the show, but we’ll take it.
Diablo
It’s Diablo’s 30th anniversary, which means we’ve all been alive for way too long. Blizz revealed Diablo V as well as D4’s 30th anniversary season which brings back all three OG Prime Evils.
Oh and we’re getting a Netflix series too!
Looks insane, can’t wait to hear more as next year unfolds in D4 and we get some story content leading into the “fall of Sanctuary” in D5.
Starcraft
In line with the HOTS “Holy fuck this franchise still has support?” theme, Starcraft is back. Well…. Almost. It’ll be back when I’m 40 fucking years old, in 2030. I don’t even wanna think about the year 2030. The fog is gonna consume us all in 2027. The fog is coming. The fog is coming. The fog is coming. Here’s the teaser though, and it’s absolutely gruesome.
Overwatch
There’s a couple more heroes coming and a flock of seagulls. That’s about it. Looks good though, if you like Overwatch I assume you’re happy. Not for me.
Warcraft
Now we’re in the real deal territory… WoW had a ton of announcements. Patch 12.2 (Eclipse) was revealed, we had a quick teaser for The Last Titan in 2027, but the real meat and potatoes is “World of Warcraft: Forever”, the “Classic+” that has been rumored for years. It’s Classic, but with new content, and it looks super slick… Also I’d be lying if this cinematic didn’t get me right in the feels.
Hearthstone
“Reign of the Black Empire” was announced, the next set this year. New keyword “Assemble” lets you nearly build your own card mid-game by combining effect text from select cards.
Also I cooked a dev in a 1v1. Not a big deal but kind of a big deal.
All in all, BlizzCon day 1 was a banger, and I can’t wait to go back tomorrow. We’ll be getting some Cosplay Red Carpet coverage too until someone gets mad, so stay tuned for that.
