Check Out Jedi Leia, Evil Chewie, And More From Free Radical’s Cancelled “Battlefront” Games
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…. A British developer named Free Radical Design had the reins on the Star Wars: Battlefront franchise, and were in the midst of whipping up a hell of a new take on some of the most recognizable characters in the series.
A gallery chock full of concept art that popped up on Reddit this week offers a peek into the minds of the creative department at Free Radical way back in 2006, for their not-yet-announced Star Wars Battlefront 4. And for those keeping score at home: no – Star Wars Battlefront 3 never released, and went the way of the dinosaurs in 2006. Three years later, Free Radical was acquired by Crytek, and became “Crytek UK”. A few years after that, Crytek UK ceased operations as well.
The gallery of concept art for Battlefront 4 is entirely based around several ‘what if?’ scenarios in the Star Wars universe. Like, ‘what if Leia embraced the Force within her and became a Jedi?’ or, ‘what if General Grievous never chose to become more machine than man?’ among many others. Check it out:
Again, you can take a look at the full gallery over on the Reddit post once you’ve recovered from the crippling depression stemming from the realization that we’ll never get this type of creative genius from Electronic “video games aren’t meant to be fun” Arts.
