PlayStation Network and Sony Interactive Entertainment Have The Worst Customer Service Model In History

Y’know how some people use their powers or platform to spread good, kindness, and altruism? Yeah this isn’t that kind of blog.

Fuck Sony, fuck PlayStation, and fuck anyone and everyone who had a hand in developing their crock-of-shit customer service model.

Oh hey Dom, how you been? Well, y’know, just trying to balance a career, marriage, homemaking, two kids, staying in shape, a social life, and the number one gaming podcast of all time. It’s a tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it. What do I do with the boatloads of spare time, you ask? Well, dear reader, unlike many other games journalists out there – I like to play video games. And lately, I’ve been itching to get back into Marvel’s Spider-Man. So today, on my lunch break from my 9-5, I attempted to do just that.

Now, just like every other modern AAA-game, you are immediately beaten over the face with a prompt at the start menu to sign up (or log in) with an account that exclusively signs you up for marketing bullshit from that developer. In Spider-Man’s case, it’s a PSN account (since I’m currently playing it via Steam). In return, you get extra skill points and early Spidey suit unlocks.

“Wow! Neato! Radical! Far-out!” I mused to myself. “I had a PS3 a few years ago with lots of Trophies and progress on it, I’ll just log in with that!” I continued, to no one in particular. “But au contraire, you dumb fuck.” whispered the winds in reply. “Do you think it’ll really be that easy?” And here, dear reader… Begins our dilemma.

To spare you all the blood and guts, I know my PSN username. I know what email I used. I know my birthday. I know what games I owned on PS3. I know… Everything about myself. The problem is that I don’t have access to that old high school-era email, and so the good people at Sony Interactive Entertainment have more or less instructed me to go fist myself while pounding sand.

tl;dr – In order to recover my account, I need to bypass Sony’s useless chatbot and connect with a human, but in order to connect to a human… I need to log in… With the account I’m currently trying to recover.

I’m sorry, what?

Sure, you might ask “Dom, couldn’t you create a dummy account for the time being? Maybe that’ll help you log in and recover your old one!”. Not so fast, Little Timmy. Because when I try to make sensible moves like that, Sony just decides to shit down it’s leg entirely and not let me log in with aforementioned dummy account.

And when I do manage to log in, I’m told that “we can’t connect you with an agent, try again in 24 hours”. What the fuck? 24 hours? I haven’t even gotten anywhere yet and I have to wait A DAY to try again?

Truly a masterclass in horrendous chat bot design, customer service policy, and anything else you can think of. So, in closing, fuck Sony, fuck PSN, and fuck whoever designed this website. You all suck, and everyone online knows it.

That felt good.
