This Indie Platformer Will Steal Your Heart

My personal opinion is that indie games are where the true passion of the industry lies. Here at Wicked Good Gaming, I try to emphasize that whenever I get the chance. Especially in the more editorial style that WGG lets me express my thoughts in. Stolen Hearts: Wolf Knight is one of those games that I feel deserves a spotlight to highlight someone’s love for the industry.

Stolen Hearts: Wolf Knight is an action precision platformer similar to Celeste or Super Meat Boy, where every platform, portal, and enemy is meticulously placed. Every part of each level has a purpose, and every enemy does too. The level design is where it shines, with the philosophy being that every object in a level must have a purpose.

The game starts off at a party that is crashed by a giant wolf. This wolf kidnaps all the knight’s heart-shaped friends and imprisons them throughout the world. It’s up to the knight to rescue all of their friends and confront their enemy.

The player can control the knight to dash, jump, climb, and carry or throw hearts to safety after unlocking their cages. What’s cool about Stolen Hearts: Wolf Knight is that you can take certain enemy powers after killing them, Kirby style. For instance, killing a wolf and taking their power will let you transform to dash further and move faster. Absorbing an owl’s powers will let you fly around the level as an owl-like creature, Flappy Bird style. The further you get into the game, the more it shines, with a 3D boss fight near the end.

Stolen Hearts: Wolf Knight Is a Unique Indie Action Platformer With Heart

Mr. Moo, as the developer calls himself, is the solo developer for the game. Based in New York City, it took him 5+ years to make this game pretty much by himself, which rewards players who deeply explore what the game has to offer. Finding things like an altar in the game can unlock a secret “super murder mode” by sacrificing a heart on it. This mode makes the game more dark and bloody, with a secret ending as a result of turning this mode on.

Stolen Hearts: Wolf Knight does not have any in game purchases or DLC. Instead, it challenges the player to find fireflies hidden throughout each level to trade in for cosmetics. For a $10 price point on Steam, you get the full package and are rewarded for exploring around the game with multiple endings and cosmetics to acquire from different shops scattered throughout the world. Stolen Hearts: Wolf Knight is out now on Steam, and if you’re itching for another precision platformer, I highly recommend it.
