Cuphead Gets Pushed Back Again, My Heart Is Shattered

Throughout this year we discussed reducing the scope to make a 2016 release, but we made the difficult decision to delay the launch in order to ship with our vision intact. We are happy to announce that Cuphead will be coming to Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam in Mid-2017.

WELP! 2016 is fucking awful. Celebrity deaths all over the place, the Red Sox shit the bed in the playoffs, our pets’ heads are falling off, and NOW StudioMDHR has announced that Cuphead is getting pushed back to 2017. COULD THIS YEAR GET ANY WORSE?

If you’re not familiar with Cuphead yet, its a 2D, hand-drawn platformer styled after 1930’s animation (like the classic black and white Disney cartoons) that follows the adventures of Cuphead and Mugman, two anthropomorphic containers with gambling issues who end up on the wrong end of a deal with the devil. I don’t know about you, but I don’t need to know ANYTHING else about this game’s story to be completely on-board.

Cuphead just FLOODING his brain with booze. I like this guy already. #mood

If that’s not enough for you – the game is completely hand-drawn. The graphics are incredible, and part of me (the part that isn’t crushed to death by the game’s delay) is kinda glad that the developers are taking their sweet time with the game as a whole. They claim they’re doing this to ship the game with their original vision for it intact – and if that’s gonna result in a modern classic… Who am I to say “nah I don’t want that”? Go ahead, check out the trailer for Cuphead down below.

And if any of THAT is not enough for you (you bastard), Cuphead supports 2-player local co-op (AKA couch co-op). In my opinion, couch co-op is a feature that is SORELY missing in the majority of the past two console generations’ titles, and I’m thrilled to just have the opportunity to get some good old fashioned bro-op sessions on the couch. We’ve featured a few other games with awesome local co-op (like Eon Altar), and its something I’m extremely passionate about.
