Head Into The Weekend With The “Don’t Let The Balloon Touch The Ground” World Cup

Just when you thought Twitch couldn’t get any more electrifying, the bar has been raised once again. Ladies and gentlemen, I give to you – the Balloon World Cup.

The BWC is in its first year, and involves 32 teams from different countries around the world competing in the age-old living room game of “don’t let the balloon touch the floor”. According to ESPN, the matches were “fully officiated by a team of referees and took place on an official 8×8-metre (26×26-foot) court littered with household debris such as chairs, stools, tables, lamps — plus a small car”.

The game’s rules are pretty straightforward, and only require players to hit the balloon once in an upward direction. The opposing team gets a point if a player fails to prevent the balloon from touching the ground. The first-ever Balloon League champion for their inaugural season was Francesco de la Cruz of Peru, who defeated Jan Spiess from Germany to ascend to the top of the podium.

Have a great weekend everyone. If you need me, I’ll be rounding up the boys to start practicing for the USA squad so we can make the team next season and do our country proud.
