Pokémon Cards Are Coming Back To McDonald’s, And So Are Fistfights

Remember when the entire world united in peace and harmony when Pokémon GO launched? Well, Pokémon TCG releases are typically the opposite of that. Every time a huge new set comes out or a sought-after vintage set is reprinted, people turn Target parking lots into Mad Max movies over shiny cardboard marketed to children.

Expect no difference pretty soon as Pokémon TCG is returning to McDonald’s with the new promotional Happy Meal set, Dragon Discovery.

Pokémon is making a huge marketing push in Q1 this year, no doubt in advance of the Switch 2 launching as well as Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Pokémon GO is also bringing back sponsored PokéStops in-game on top of these new cards, and you already know we’ve got a huge new set coming this week that grown adults will be killing each other over in a Walmart near you.

According to Pokébeach, there will be four Happy Meal boxes featuring Charizard, Dragonite and Pikachu, Rayquaza, and Roaring Moon. If you order one, you’ll get a 4-card booster pack that will each include a holo card. These aren’t all-new cards, but the McDonald’s branding and numbering makes them “new” I guess. There’s 15 cards in total.

So yeah, I am really excited to head to a Mickey D’s after work for a draft Diet Coke only to see some adults putting each other in triangle chokes over the last Charizard Happy Meal box while a bunch of kids look on in horror, I’m sure it’ll be a sight to see.

Have a great one, folks!
