Sony Casually Announces Cross-Play On A Monday Afternoon

Earlier this week in what could basically be equated to a footnote in an otherwise huge spread over at Wired, Sony has announced that the PS4’s cross-play compatibility is coming… Like, now.

Over the last 12 months, Rocket League, Paladins, PUBG, and a handful of others have slowly enabled cross-play functionalities, and we’re also getting cross-play for the new Modern Warfare once that drops in a few weeks. Sony’s long been a holdout on the cross-play market, and I’ve seen many a Tweet and comment from angry Sony fanboys going so far as to say “whatever, we don’t need cross-play anyway because we have so many good single-player exclusives LOL XBois PC nerdz succ it”. (I’m paraphrasing here.)

Honestly, its about fucking time that Sony steps up and gives the people what they want. At a time where we get barely two or three positive, feel-good gaming-related headlines in a single week, isn’t it time that developers and publishers rally together to give the fans something to look forward to?
