A First Look At 2021’s Mortal Kombat Film Reboot Is Finally Here

Mortal Kombat’s film reboot has either been incredibly secretive, or just horribly delayed thus far – because we haven’t heard jack shit about it since the project was initially pitched over a decade ago.

Over the years we’ve had somewhat less of a trickle of information here and there – script completions, actor signings, director changes, but all of these news tidbits came up as merely a whisper amongst the other cinematic blockbusters we’ve been bombarded with over the last ten years.

Today, however, Entertainment Weekly did what they do best – premiered the very first images from the film and provided an in-depth interview about the reboot’s premise, the process of developing the film thus far, and how it sticks to the source material in all the best ways. Check out all the photos below from the EW article.

Liu Kang (Ludi Lin) and Kung Lao (Max Huang)
Bi-Han (AKA Sub-Zero) played by Joe Taslim, and Hanzo Hasashi (AKA Scorpion) played by Hiroyuki Sanada.
Cole Young (Lewis Tan) – An all new character made for the film.
Jackson “Jax” Briggs (Mehcad Brooks)
Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee)
Kano (Josh Lawson)

What do you think of the characters’ appearances thus far? I personally think this is the perfect amount of seriousness and grit, mixed with all the best elements of the characters’ appearances in the games.

Mortal Kombat is slated to release in theaters and on HBO Max in 2021.
