After Sad Showings From Sony, Nintendo – The Bar Is On The Floor For Xbox

In case you missed it, Sony’s most recent State of Play was earlier today, and it absolutely stunk. Don’t believe me? Watch our very own Dr. Bob react to all the non-news right here.

Now that you’re back, let’s talk about the big highlights from the most recent pressers from two of gaming’s “Big Three”, both from today’s State of Play and last week’s Nintendo Direct. Ready?

Here’s what Sony gave us:

  • Updates for the following games that already exist:
    • Crash 4
    • Final Fantasy 7
  • New info on the following games that we already knew about:
    • Returnal
    • Knockout City
    • Solar Ash
    • Oddworld: Soulstorm
    • Kena: Bridge of Spirits
    • Deathloop
    • Five Nights at Freddy’s 2
  • New games:
    • Sifu

But how about Nintendo? They never disappoint right?! What about their showings from last week?

Nintendo and Sony!? You’re not missing anything, I looked into it! There were some JRPGs and some updates on games we’ve already heard about 1000 times! That’s. About. It.

The bar is now on the floor for Xbox

I’m sure many fans will disagree with me about Nintendo and Sony’s showings, and that’s totally fine. You are welcome to your incorrect opinion, and I truly hope it warms you during these cold winter months while your favorite companies leave us out in the cold. I, however, am a professionally trained cynic – and I have no more faith to extend towards companies who haven’t had much to show since… Well… I can’t remember when.

Xbox didn’t exactly crush their last major presser either, as we got a pretty lackluster demo for Halo Infinite (a game that may or may not be actually ever coming out), and a few other tidbits on third-party titles that soon after became first-party titles because Microsoft just said “fuck it” and bought their studio like me and my wife impulse-buying a Peloton 15 minutes ago after deleting a full bottle of Cab Sauv.

So there you have it, Phil Spencer and Xbox team – the bar is on the floor. What you do with it next, is up to you. Show off a baller ass Halo Infinite multiplayer featurette, reveal Elden Ring gameplay before Sony does, and – fuck it – just for shits and giggles? Tell us Xbox Game Pass is going to Switch.

I’m gonna go pour myself another drink. Good luck everybody else!
