DOOM Eternal Released Date Pushed To 2020

DOOM Eternal, one of my most anticipated games of the year, has been pushed back to 2020. Here’s an excerpt from id Software’s statement this morning:

“To make sure we’re delivering the best experience — for DOOM Eternal to live up to our standards of speed and polish — we’ve made the decision to extend our launch date by a few months to March 20, 2020. We know many fans will be disappointed by this delay, but we are confident that DOOM Eternal will deliver a gaming experience that is worth the wait.”

Now, obviously, this kinda stinks – but it’s only going to result in a more polished, robust, and all-around better game for the fans. This statement was accompanied by a few nuggets of good news though. DOOM Eternal is getting a new Invasion Mode (which’ll be a free update post-launch) that will allow you to enter another player’s game as a demon and grief the shit out of them. Works for me! Also, DOOM 64 is still coming to PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch alongside DOOM Eternal, and will be completely free for folks who pre-order the new title. The Nintendo Switch version of DOOM Eternal does not have a release date just yet, but id Software has told us that its coming sometime after the PC/PS4/XB1 release date.

Am I disappointed that DOOM Eternal’s getting delayed? A little. Am I upset? Absolutely not. In an era where it feels like there’s another game every month that gets rushed out with zero polish and a trillion bugs, I’m glad id Software is taking some extra time to let DOOM Eternal marinate so we get the best demon-slaying experience possible.

DOOM Eternal is coming March 20, 2020 – and I can’t fucking wait.
