Heartwarming: NBA Star Anthony Edwards Pays Tribute To John Madden by 40-Piecing Opponent In ‘Madden 22’

We were only about 30 minutes into the new year, but the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards has already given us the gaming quote of 2022.

The stud shooting guard was drafted first overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, and ever since then has been lighting the league on fire with incredible stat lines and memorable post-game quotes. After a crushing loss to the Utah Jazz on New Years Eve, Edwards had this to say about the recent passing of John Madden:

Later, Edwards said he was "the best basketball-Madden player in the world."

When asked about John Madden's death, he said:

"It was sickening, man. I was playing Madden when I heard the news. So I had to beat somebody by 30, 40 points to show my respect.

Truly touching, heartwarming stuff. I can’t think of a better way to mourn the late, great John Madden by absolutely mollywopping somebody in a game that he helped make what it is today. Chris Hine, the Timberwolves beat reporter who quoted Edwards, followed this up with another quote in which the former University of Georgia star said he’d be unbeatable in a 3-on-3 Madden 22 game if he was paired with Madden content creators BlackReign4 and Throne – saying “They’d be on my team and we won’t lose.”

Anthony Edwards has been featured in numerous YouTube videos where he’s played Madden with (and against) notable Madden content creators, and seems to take his Madden game just as seriously as he does his game on the court. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll see him sign with Complexity Stars.
