‘Kenobi’ Trailer Showcases Terrifying Connection To Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
In case you didn’t hear me screaming in ecstasy from wherever you’re located on earth yesterday, Disney finally released the trailer for their next Disney+ exclusive Star Wars series – Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Anyone who’s familiar with Star Wars’ animated shows would probably recognize the Inquisitors in this trailer. If you don’t know who these new villains are, the short version is that they’re a group of Force-sensitive individuals (some of whom used to be Jedi) that were twisted by Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine to hunt down Jedi survivors of Order 66. They’d deceive, capture, torture, and murder their way to hunting down every remnant of the Jedi Order, and anyone they captured would be forced to lead them to other Jedi, become Inquisitors themselves, or die.
About mid-way through the trailer, you’ll notice a big ol’ castle in the middle of the ocean where these new villains are holding court. But what is it? Ladies and gentlemen, I give you – Fortress Inquisitorius. In short, it’s the headquarters of the Inquisitors. But in order to go into any amount of detail about just how terrifying this place really is, I’m going to need to delve into spoiler territory.
If you haven’t played Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order yet (and you really, really should), I suggest you turn back now.
SPOILERS for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Ahead, You Have Been Warned
Fortress Inquisitorius is the stronghold of the Empire’s Inquisitor Program, and featured both above-ground and underwater facilities. Everything from combat training areas, to holding cells, to – you guessed it – torture chambers could be found inside. Very few people inside the Empire and absolutely nobody outside their ranks knew of its existence, until the crew from Jedi: Fallen Order came knocking.
The Empire took Jedi Masters, Knights, Palawan’s, and even Force-sensitive children (Younglings) to turn them to the dark side via brutal torture methods. The central interrogation chamber is prominently featured in Jedi: Fallen Order, and was designed by the Emperor to “psychologically and physically drain a prisoner’s will”, forcing them to serve him.
Darth Vader himself would commune with the Grand Inquisitor (the bald guy in the trailer that kinda looks like Pinhead from Hellraiser) to make sure the Inquisitors were doing their jobs. There was definitely a little friction between the two of them (as they both served Darth Sidious and would jockey for his favor), so I bet we see that play out in the show since we already know Hayden Christensen is on board as Vader in the show.
So yeah, in short… This place is bad news. Maybe we’ll see Obi-Wan here as he attempts to free captured Jedi from the fortress (since the trailer alludes to Jedi being unable to resist helping others), maybe he’ll even be captured himself and tortured by the Inquisitors (this might account for his memory issues as an old man in A New Hope), or maybe we won’t see the inside at all.
One way or the other, I have a bad feeling about this.
