Resident Evil Showcase (FULL RECAP)

Capcom hosted an hour-long showcase to… Well… Showcase the future of Resident Evil earlier today. Here’s everything you need to know.

Resident Evil Village (RE: VIII)

RE8, AKA Resident Evil: Village, got a new trailer today and is officially dropping on May 7th, 2021.

It will ship with three different versions, the Deluxe “Trauma Pack”, a Collector’s Edition, and a “Biohazard Bundle” that includes Resident Evil 7 on top of the sequel. Pre-orders are live right now, and RE8 will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It’ll also be available on Xbox One and PS4 with free upgrades to next-gen versions in case you adopt a new console later.

PS5 players can check out a demo of RE8 today, and other platforms will get one later this spring.

25th Anniversary Celebrations

In addition to the big RE8 news, there are a handful of other promotions in the works to celebrate RE’s 25th Anniversary on March 22nd.

Resident Evil Re:Verse – Re:Verse is a 4-6 player deathmatch game starring a handful of characters from the series. Everyone who purchases RE8 will get a copy of Re:Verse for free.

Resident Evil Items in The Division 2 – Every player who logs into The Division 2 will get Leon Kennedy’s RPD suit to start, and more items will be added to the game to pay homage to different games in the series.

Film and Television Projects

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness – Set “a few years” after Resident Evil 4, this Netflix-exclusive animated series focuses on Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy. It’s set to arrive some time this year.

Live Action Series – While not mentioned in the showcase, Andrew Dabb and Bronwen Hughes’ live action Netflix series is still in the works. The series reportedly will follow longtime series villain Albert Wekser’s kids – Jade and Billie – as they explore “New Raccoon City”, which sounds like Westworld with zombies.

Film Reboot – Again, this wasn’t mentioned in the showcase, but Director Johannes Roberts’ film reboot is supposedly still coming this year. It follows the events of Resident Evil 1 and 2, and still doesn’t have a trailer.

And that’s it (with a few bonuses). The full showcase is below if you’d like to see all the news unfold for yourself.

Stay spooky, folks.
