The day is finally upon us. Metroid Dread has officially been released. In true Nintendo fashion, this 2D technical marvel of a game set on the remote planet of ZDR. The Galactic Federation, responding to video footage from an “unknown source” showing that the deadly X parasite may still be alive, sends seven E.M.M.I. robots to the planet to investigate. To the dismay of the Galactic Federation, the entire unit vanishes. Panicking, the Galactic Federation sends in Samus Aran (immune to the X parasite) to do some ass-kicking damage control.
While some have accused Nintendo of shoveling out a basic copy/paste asset rip, fans of the Metroid series are salivating over the classic side-scrolling adventure awaiting them in the depths of Planet ZDR. Let’s re-live some of the development history:
