Riot Games is Paying $10 Million to Female Employees to Settle Gender Discrimination Lawsuit

According to court documents filed this week: Riot Games has agreed to pay $10 million to be shared between all women who were employed by the developers any time 2004 until now. According to the LA Times, this 10 mil will be paid out to as many as 1000 employees – with contractors receiving a minimum of $500, and most other classes receiving minimum of $5000.

“We’re pleased to have a proposed settlement to fully resolve the class action lawsuit,” a Riot spokesperson said in a statement.
“The settlement is another important step forward, and demonstrates our commitment to living up to our values and to making Riot an inclusive environment for the industry’s best talent.”

There’s a suit of about 78 pages that I just spent this beautiful, snowy, New England night, reading. In this suit it alleges that Riot had a culture of phantom humping, snapping and sending unsolicited dick pics, crotch-grabbing, and a “hot girls list” for female Riot employees. This sounds like a frat house, and I can understand why a girl, or anyone really could be uncomfortable. Imagine just sitting at your desk, doing your work, and you get AirDropped a veiny one. I’d be livid.

People create their best work when they’re comfortable. How can you expect people to produce to the best of their abilities when their head is constantly on a swivel. And while I think that the distribution of the money is a good gesture to move in the right direction, the lawsuit names male employees, who were the one making this workplace a nightmare.. And they are still employed by Riot.

I don’t care how important the employee is. If they’re a creep, get rid of them. Seems simple no?
