SURPRISE! Paper Mario: The Origami King Is Coming To Switch This July

Nintendo, you beautiful son of a bitch. Just when we thought 2020 couldn’t get any worse, a tiny paper plumber glides in out of nowhere to surprise us with the best news all year by far. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Paper Mario: The Origami King.

Looking to add an extra dimension to your adventures? Are you ready for your fun to in-crease tenfold? Well, a special invitation to a colorful, paper-crafted world has arrived. Princess Peach is welcoming Mario and Luigi to attend the kingdom’s origami festival when the Paper Mario: The Origami King game launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch family of systems on July 17.

REDMOND, Wash. –(BUSINESS WIRE)– Nintendo

I am struggling to catch my breath here. A brand new Paper Mario game. On Nintendo Switch. And it’s coming in TWO MONTHS. Let me fan myself for a minute and give you a rundown of the plot, via the above linked Business Wire report.

Basically, there’s an annual Origami Festival in the Mushroom Kingdom. Princess Peach invites everyone’s favorite plumbers, as well as the mysterious king of the Origami Kingdom, King Olly. Mario needs to stop King Olly from unleashing his plan to “fold the entire world”, and will have to use his new 1000-Fold Arms – the core of a new set of abilities in the game – that will allow Mario to interact with the game’s landscape. Using the arms, Mario can stretch out, pull, and peel to revealing new locations, solve puzzles, and find hidden surprises.

My favorite part about this trailer? You’ve once again enlisted the help of Bowser himself to stop King Olly. Y’know what other game required Mario to team up with Bowser to stop an even more powerful enemy who seized control of Bowser’s Army? Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. That’s right folks. Could we see more easter eggs and references to my favorite game of all time? We shall see.
