Destiny 2’s Commander Zavala Finds a New Voice With Legendary Actor Keith David

In a blog post directly from Bungie earlier this afternoon, it was confirmed that Destiny 2’s Commander Zavala will live on through the voice of legendary actor Keith David.

The blog, titled “THANK YOU, COMMANDER: THE FUTURE OF ZAVALA’S JOURNEY”, cemented that Zavala’s English language voice in Destiny’s upcoming expansion – The Final Shape – and beyond, will be assumed by David. The late Lance Reddick’s existing lines will remain untouched in-game.

Bungie finds themselves reuniting with Keith David once again for the first time since Halo 3, where he voiced The Arbiter (also known as Thel ‘Vadam) in the game’s original trilogy.

While it’s tough to imagine anyone else voicing Zavala aside from Reddick, who was an extremely outspoken and interactive member of the Destiny community on top of playing a character in game, I can’t help but think that he’d want the legacy of Commander Zavala to continue in the event of his untimely passing. David added in the announcement blog – “I am honored to continue the great work of Lance Reddick as Zavala. Lance captured the character’s sense of integrity so wonderfully. It is my intention to continue that work.” – and I don’t think you have to say much more than that to get fans fired up to engage with his rendition of the iconic character.
