New Gigantamax Pokémon Are Here, And They’re Fucking Terrifying
In case you haven’t already looked into the new gimmick for this Pokémon generation, it revolves entirely around making them big enough to occupy an entire soccer stadium. Nope, you’re not about to have a stroke, and all of those words you just read are 100% real.
This new gimmick feature is called “Gigantamax”, and it allows you to make your Pokémon bigger, badder, and way more powerful than ever thought possible in previous games. If you’re wondering how this is different from Mega Evolutions in generations past – let me reiterate: they’re BEEG.
Why, you might ask, on Christ’s sanctified Earth do we need a twelve-story tall Meowth? Why does Pikachu now look like he did on his original Pokémon TCG card? What purpose does Eevee’s newfound airbag-like fur collar serve? Why is Gigantamax Charizard already the scariest thing I’ve ever seen in my life? Well folks, only Nintendo knows. And if the past is any indication, they will definitely not elaborate any further on how Gigantamax battles impact the Pokémon themselves, and we’ll probably never see this feature again in future games.
Mom, come pick me up. I’m scared.
Pokémon Sword & Shield releases on the Nintendo Switch on November 15th later this year.
