New Mortal Kombat 1 Trailer Gives A Callback to Its Legacy
Mortal Kombat, that name rings a bell to many people all over the globe. One of the most recognized fighting games of all time. Creator Ed Boon is at it again rebooting the franchise in Mortal Kombat 1. Giving it a fresh coat of paint and a retelling of characters in new roles. Today, a new trailer dropped starring Marvel cinema’s pride and joy, Dave Bautista. The trailer starts in a quiet library as Dave strolls by whispering the legendary franchise’s name. “Mortal Kombat”, someone says in response. Soon, the entire town is up in arms about the gaming event to come.
If you recall the commercials for the original MK, you’d see the resemblance to the 1992 TV spot. From the people marching in the streets, to the teenagers and adults alike shouting “Mortal Kombat”. This new spot is a loving callback to Mortal Kombat’s roots, where teenagers were seen doing the same thing for the SNES version of the game.
In the original commercial, you can hear the shout that cemented the legacy of the title. This shout was used in several other promotional materials, including the soundtrack of the original movie for MK back in 1995. The OG “good” video game movie! It’s kind of crazy how much influence this commercial had on the series promotional material going forward!
Whether you’re a fan of MK or not, this is going to be a fighting game launch to remember. Fans playing the beta for Mortal Kombat 1 are already expressing praise for the game. You can get your hands on it for all platforms on September 14th!
